About Me

Hello! My name is Elysia. Music has always been a major part of my life and I feel blessed to be a flute teacher, to share my passion for learning. I am married to my wonderfully supportive husband Andrew and I am the mother to three boys. Family is very important to me and when I am not playing flute I am spending time with them. I love to read, write, do puzzles, and play board games. I also enjoy playing soccer and tennis. Although new to the practice of Yoga, it is an integral part of my daily life. Additionally, I take great pleasure in planning, organizing, and making lists. While at the University of Notre Dame, I studied and received a degree in Italian Literature and Language and I was fortunate to have the opportunity to live in Rome, Italy for a semester. I read to my boys in Italian almost every night. I also love to travel and experience new places and things. Finally, I like to think of myself as a kid-at-heart because of my life-long appreciation for the Disney Princesses and my constant desire to learn, fed by my endless curiosity.

As a musician, teacher, and mother I think it is very important to give back to the community in which I live. I enjoy visiting and playing at schools; I also help at my children’s schools in any capacity I can. I have been known to coach soccer or substitute teach as needed.

As a teacher, my goals are to be open-minded, understanding, passionate, engaging, and encouraging for my students. I hope that they see me as an inspiration, an anchor, and a springboard for their own learning. I learn new things every day and I encourage my students to endeavor to do the same. If my students come to lessons prepared, open-minded, and willing to learn, the possibilities will be endless. I always encourage my students to listen to and work on music that they are interested in in addition the literature I consider essential to their growth and improvement as a musician. My studio is a safe place for learning and personal growth.
